Lincoln City U18s 1 - 1 GTFC U18s

The Youth Team kicked off their season on Saturday, with an away trip to Lincoln City. The Young Mariners were looking to continue the excellent form they had during a Netherlands trip that saw them go unbeaten and not concede a goal.

Both teams had spells of possession, early on, being forced to play the ball left to right due to the breeze. Joe Starbuck eventually found himself in some space down the right wing, making it past the Lincoln full-back before cutting the ball back to find Kyle Richardson, whose shot was denied by good save from the Lincoln keeper.

As the game went on, Lincoln started pressing and managed to square a ball into the Town box, but no one managed to get on the end of it. Lincoln continued to dominate possession, winning a free kick on the edge of the Town box, but it was hit over the crossbar. Town managed to gain the upper hand late on in the half when Joe Starbuck again found himself free on the right wing of the pitch, finding Rumarn Burrell in the middle of the box. He rose above the Lincoln defenders and got his head on the ball, narrowly missing goal.

HALF TIME: Lincoln City U18s 0 – 0 GTFC U18s

The Young Mariners were on the front foot as the second half kicked off, but it was Lincoln who took the lead after a clearance from their defence bounced over Ollie Battersby’s head to put them 1-0 up. Town found an opportunity to pull back soon after, though, when a Lincoln defender handled the ball inside the box, winning a penalty for the Town lads. KYLE RICHARDSON equalized for the Young Mariners from the spot, making the score 1 – 1. Town managed to hold on to the end to scrape a point in what was a disappointing showing from the youngsters.
