Neil Woods’ Grimsby Town U18s aim to get back on track in the EFL North East Youth Alliance as they welcome ninth-placed Chesterfield to Cheapside on Saturday.
Town fell to just their third league defeat of the season last time out as they lost 1-0 to Burton Albion at St. George’s Park.
And the young Mariners, who remain four points clear of second-placed Doncaster Rovers, will now be hoping to claim victory over the Spireites at Cheapside this weekend.
Town picked up an impressive 3-0 away win over Chesterfield earlier in the season – despite not being at their best – thanks to goals from Emil Powles, Rumarn Burrell, and captain Brandon Buckley.
And they will be hoping for more of the same this weekend as they look to continue their title challenge.
But the Spireites have lost their previous three league games, and will be determined to avoid a fourth straight defeat on the bounce.
Elsewhere in the title race, second-placed Doncaster Rovers – who have a game in hand on Town – are at home to sixth-placed Bradford City.
Third-placed Lincoln City, who are winless in two, are without a game this weekend.
After this weekend’s match with Chesterfield, the young Mariners have a mouth-watering clash with fellow title-chasers Doncaster Rovers at Cheapside on Saturday, March 30 (11am).
